Cowboys at Packers

Lambeau Field in the middle of October, under the lights, with the Cowboys in town. There are perhaps five fixtures in the sport carrying this much accumulated history, and this is one of them. Green Bay in the cold has been the setting for some of the longest afternoons in Dallas football memory, and everybody who follows this team knows exactly which ones without being reminded. A Sunday night kickoff makes it better and worse at once: the temperature drops, the cameras adore it, and a national audience settles in to see whether history has any intention of repeating itself. The Packers crowd needs no particular reason to be loud, and the visit of the Cowboys is a very good one. Back home it plays out on a school night, which nobody in North Texas has ever treated as a meaningful obstacle.
